Tom Pendergast: Kansas City's Political Boss

Tom Pendergast was a powerful American political boss who controlled Kansas City and Jackson County, Missouri, from 1925 to 1939. He built a vast political machine through patronage and, at times, voter fraud, overseeing significant infrastructure projects while also engaging in widespread corruption that ultimately led to his downfall and imprisonment. His influence was instrumental in launching the political career of future President Harry S. Truman.
