Theseus was a legendary hero of Greek mythology, famed for slaying the Minotaur in the Cretan labyrinth and for uniting the scattered towns of Attica under Athens. Said to be the son of both King Aegeus and the sea god Poseidon, his adventures from bandit-slayer to king made him Athens' greatest mythical founder-figure.
