The Institute for Genomic Research (TIGR)

The Institute for Genomic Research (TIGR) was a pioneering non-profit research organization founded by J. Craig Venter in 1992. It played a crucial role in the early days of genomics, notably by sequencing the first complete genome of a free-living organism and contributing significantly to the Human Genome Project. TIGR's work laid much of the groundwork for modern genomic science before it merged into the J. Craig Venter Institute (JCVI).
