The Institute for Genomic Research (TIGR)

The Institute for Genomic Research (TIGR) was a pioneering non-profit research organization founded by <a href="/article/j-craig-venter">J. Craig Venter</a> in 1992. It played a crucial role in the early days of genomics, sequencing the first complete genome of a free-living organism and making significant contributions to the <a href="/article/human-genome-project">Human Genome Project</a>. TIGR later became a foundational part of the <a href="/article/j-craig-venter-institute">J. Craig Venter Institute</a> (JCVI).
