Supreme Leader of Iran

The Supreme Leader of Iran is the highest political and religious authority in the Islamic Republic, with power over the military, judiciary, and state media. Established after the 1979 revolution, the office is held for life and has been occupied by three leaders, with the current leader being Mojtaba Khamenei since 2026. The role is rooted in the Shia doctrine of Guardianship of the Islamic Jurist, giving the leader ultimate say over all state affairs.
