Seneca the Elder

Seneca the Elder was a prominent Roman writer and rhetorician from the 1st century BCE and 1st century CE. He is best known for his extensive anthology of rhetorical exercises, the *Controversiae* and *Suasoriae*, which offers a unique window into Roman education and oratorical practices during the early Roman Empire. He was also the father of the famous philosopher <a href="/article/seneca-the-younger">Seneca the Younger</a>.
