The Rif War was a brutal anti-colonial conflict fought from 1921 to 1926 in northern Morocco. Indigenous Berber tribes, led by the brilliant <a href="/article/abd-el-krim">Abd el-Krim</a>, fiercely resisted Spanish and later French colonial forces, establishing the short-lived Republic of the Rif before ultimately being defeated.
