The Rayleigh-Jeans Law was an early attempt in physics to describe the light emitted by a hot object, known as a black body, using classical physics. While it worked for long wavelengths, it famously failed at short wavelengths, predicting an infinite amount of energy, a problem known as the "ultraviolet catastrophe." This failure was a crucial step that led to the development of quantum mechanics.
