Rasa (Aesthetics): The Indian Theory of Emotional Flavour in Art

Rasa is the central concept of Indian aesthetics — the "flavour" or emotional essence that a work of art awakens in a prepared audience. Codified in the Natyashastra and expanded by later philosophers, it explains how dance, drama, music, and poetry transform raw emotions into a shared, almost tasted experience of delight.
