Rabindranath Tagore was a Bengali polymath and the first Asian to win a Nobel Prize in any category, awarded the Nobel Prize in Literature in 1913. He was a poet, writer, playwright, composer, philosopher, social reformer, and painter who played a significant role in shaping Bengali literature and music. Tagore is best known for his poetic songs, elegant prose, and magical poetry, which were widely popular in the Indian subcontinent. He was a fellow of the Royal Asiatic Society and is referred to as "the Bard of Bengal".
