Puumala virus is a tiny germ, or virus, primarily found in Europe and Russia, that causes a mild kidney illness in humans called nephropathia epidemica. It's spread by bank voles, small rodents, through their droppings, urine, and saliva. While usually not severe, it's an important public health concern in affected regions.
