The Ptolemaic Dynasty was a Hellenistic Macedonian Greek royal family that ruled Egypt for nearly three centuries, from 305 BCE to 30 BCE. Founded by <a href="/article/ptolemy-i-soter">Ptolemy I Soter</a>, a general of <a href="/article/alexander-the-great">Alexander the Great</a>, it was the last dynasty of ancient Egypt, known for its unique blend of Greek and Egyptian cultures and its eventual fall to the Roman Republic.
