Polio Eradication: The Global Campaign to End a Disease Forever

Polio eradication is a worldwide public health effort aiming to permanently stop the circulation of the poliovirus and eliminate the paralyzing disease it causes. Led by the Global Polio Eradication Initiative, this campaign uses vaccination and surveillance to achieve a world free from polio, building on the success of smallpox eradication. Despite significant progress, challenges remain with the wild virus in two countries and the emergence of vaccine-derived strains.
