Plymouth Colony was one of the earliest successful English settlements in North America, founded in 1620 by a group of English Separatists known as the Pilgrims. It played a significant role in early American history, establishing traditions like Thanksgiving and pioneering concepts of self-governance through the Mayflower Compact. The colony eventually merged with the Massachusetts Bay Colony in 1691.
