The Large Hadron Collider (LHC) is the world's largest and most powerful particle accelerator, located at CERN near Geneva. It smashes tiny particles together at nearly the speed of light to recreate conditions from the early universe, helping scientists understand the fundamental building blocks of matter and the forces that govern them. Its most famous discovery was the Higgs boson in 2012.
