Josiah Willard Gibbs

Josiah Willard Gibbs was a brilliant American scientist who made groundbreaking contributions to physics, chemistry, and mathematics in the late 19th century. He is best known for his work on thermodynamics and for founding the field of statistical mechanics, which explains how the properties of large systems arise from the behavior of their tiny particles. His abstract theories laid the foundation for much of modern physical chemistry and engineering.
