Hantaviruses are a group of viruses primarily carried by rodents that can cause severe, sometimes fatal, diseases in humans. These diseases include Hantavirus Pulmonary Syndrome (HPS) in the Americas and Hemorrhagic Fever with Renal Syndrome (HFRS) in other parts of the world, both resulting from the body's overreaction to the virus.
