Geoffrey of Monmouth

Geoffrey of Monmouth was a 12th-century Christian cleric and author whose most famous work, *Historia Regum Britanniae*, profoundly shaped the legends of King Arthur. Though now considered historically unreliable, his imaginative chronicle introduced many enduring elements of the Arthurian mythos and became a foundational text for medieval European literature.
