Gavrilo Princip

Gavrilo Princip was a Bosnian Serb student whose assassination of Archduke Franz Ferdinand of Austria-Hungary and his wife Sophie in Sarajevo on June 28, 1914, directly triggered the July Crisis, which led to the outbreak of World War I. His act, driven by South Slav nationalism and a desire to free Bosnia from Austro-Hungarian rule, made him a pivotal figure in 20th-century history, though his legacy remains highly controversial.
