Sir Fred Hoyle was a brilliant and often controversial English astronomer and cosmologist. He is best known for his groundbreaking work on how elements are formed inside stars, a process called stellar nucleosynthesis, and for coining the term "Big Bang" while ironically advocating for his own "Steady-State" theory of the universe.
