It shows 26 letters, closely matching the contemporary Greek alphabet of that time, including letters like digamma, san, and qoppa, but notably missing omega, which hadn't yet been added to the Greek system. Over time, the Etruscan alphabet evolved to better suit the sounds of the Etruscan language. Initially, the direction of writing was quite flexible, sometimes left-to-right, sometimes right-to-left, or even boustrophedon (alternating directions like an ox plowing a field). The Romans initially used 'C' for both the /k/ and /g/ sounds, just as the Etruscans used it for /k/. Later, the Romans ingeniously modified 'C' by adding a small stroke to create the letter 'G', distinguishing the two sounds.
