The Eastern Front of World War I

The Eastern Front was a major theatre of World War I where the German, Austro-Hungarian, and Ottoman Empires fought against the Russian Empire. It was defined by vast distances, massive troop movements, and a war of movement that contrasted sharply with the static trench warfare of the West. Its collapse in 1917 led directly to the Russian Revolution and the end of the war in the East.
