Corazon Aquino: The Mother of Philippine Democracy

Corazon "Cory" Aquino was the 11th president of the Philippines and the first female president in Asian history. Rising from a housewife to the leader of the opposition after her husband's assassination, she became the figurehead of the 1986 People Power Revolution that toppled dictator Ferdinand Marcos. Her presidency restored democratic institutions, drafted a new constitution, and set the Philippines on a path toward democratic governance.
