A Bose-Einstein Condensate (BEC) is a unique state of matter that forms when a gas of certain particles, called bosons, is cooled to incredibly low temperatures, almost absolute zero. At this extreme cold, the individual particles lose their separate identities and merge into a single, giant quantum wave, behaving like one "super-atom." This allows us to observe quantum mechanical phenomena, usually only seen at the atomic level, on a macroscopic scale.
