Battle of Okinawa

The Battle of Okinawa, codenamed Operation Iceberg, was the largest amphibious assault in the Pacific Theater of World War II, fought from April to June 1945. It was an intensely brutal and costly battle between Allied forces and the Imperial Japanese Army, resulting in immense casualties for both sides and Okinawan civilians. The battle served as a critical stepping stone for the planned invasion of the Japanese home islands.
