Anschluss

The Anschluss was the annexation of Austria into Nazi Germany on March 12, 1938. This event, meaning "joining" or "connection" in German, was a key step in <a href="/article/adolf-hitler">Adolf Hitler's</a> expansionist policies and violated international treaties, effectively ending Austria's independence until the end of <a href="/article/world-war-ii">World War II</a>.
