Allied Invasion of Italy

The Allied invasion of Italy was a major military campaign during World War II, launched in September 1943, following the successful invasion of Sicily. Its primary goals were to knock Italy out of the war, open the Mediterranean Sea for Allied shipping, and tie down German forces.
